Backspacing for Weld Wheels on GT
Hello to all.
anyone know the correct backspace to put a 15x10 Weld Drag Lite wheel in rear of GT
and a 15x4 in the front?
I think Code had this combo on his old BLACK GT, (maybe he had a 15x8 in the back?)
so Code if you could please let me know.
or anyone else who has had/has this.
Thanks!

RE: Backspacing for Weld Wheels on GT
his wifes car had in front 15x3.5 with a spacer, he cant remember the size though
and in back was 15x10 with 295/50/15
i'll be doing a 15x10 with 295/50/15 in back with 15x6 up front with a 195 or 205/55/15 i believe
im not sure of the spacer size i will need however, its something that i need to research,, unless someone would like to take the time to explain backspacing, and finding out how it works and expalining it all to me

got this off of MichiganJeepers
Backspacing
Backspacing is the distance from the inside rim surface to the backside of the wheel mounting surface. It determines how far a wheel (& tire) sticks into or out of the wheel well of the vehicle. Wheels with a lot of backspacing will stick further in. Wheels with little back spacing will stick further out. Sometimes when swapping in wider axles 4x4 owners will switch to a wheel with much more backspacing to compensate. You should note that the backspacing measurement is critical when considering the wheels clearance of the suspension, braking and steering components as well as the body. All of these must be considered in both normal conditions and when at full suspension travel or articulation.
Offset
Offset is the distance from the exact wheel centerline to the inside wheel mounting surface. Offset and Backspacing are related. A large amount of offset can change the leverage and the loads on axle or wheel bearings and so if possible you should stay (within reason) close to the stock wheel offset. In addition to changing the load on the bearings changing the offset significantly will change the turning radius (of the tire) and may effect both steering response and steering stability.
The spacer for the front is just needed to keep the brakes touching the wheel. 99-04 need a 7/16" and the 96-98 need a 1/2"
You can get away with not having a spacer if you grind on the calipers
72MachOne99GT call cragar to verify, that would be the best bet since the cragars are what you are wanting. I tried emailing about some other wheels about a month ago and didnt get a response. Im pretty sure thats the case for any of the 15" for the front though with one exception. The only 15" for the front I know of that dont require a spacer are the weld xp series, and there heavier, which kinda defeats the reason of going to a 15" though

i thought that the size of spacer would differ depending on the size of the wheel
IE a 3.5 would need a smaller spacer than a 15x6 like i am planning on,,
but like you siad, im gonna call Crager i suppose with the stock numbers from my 99GT and see what they recommend to keep it as close as possible
that whole post is going in my "keeper" pile
later, thanks
