Default Shifter install trouble...

So I cant get the factory shifter off the tranny... I got all 4 bolts off but I just can't seem to pull it off. It seems like its welded on there... I won't damage the tranny if I pull with all my might will I?

Don't pull, just left to right motion... It is the RTV... It makes a good seal.

Your right about putting the shifter handle on to remove to give you a better grip and leverage. But you shouldnt go forward/back. You need to go from left to right in neutral.

i tried so hard to get mine off with the left to right action and gave up. What i used was a pair of oil filter pliers with the teeth on em and U shape of the thing allowed me to stick a tooth on the right side of the shifter base and use the body itself as leverage and came off in a amatter of seconds.

Take a bit of advice from my old man, and never force anything unless you absolutly have to.

Try prying gently on the crack between the shifter and the trans.

And I mean GENTLY.

I just replaced mine a few weeks ago, and had a similiar problem. I took a razor and was able to slice into the seal and it came right off with a little right left action. It probably took me 30 minutes to just pull the stock shifter of the tranny good luck man and +1 for not forcing it too hard.

Heh, I just put the tri-ax in mine, and it wasnt coming off, all i did was work it a bit, like the others are saying with getting out of snow... left, right, left, etc, and it popped off about 5 mins later....
