I have heard they can run into some pretty serious cooling issues.....
I had a 96 V6 that had extreme cooling issues. Summer was rough

def check the top....it can cost you upwards of a 1000 to fix the top...if its in good condition your lucky and if it isnt get the price lowered....my 96 has 88K with hardly any problem....good luck

It is at a dealer...

So from what I gather the clutches don't hold up too well, the cooling system sucks (closed cooling system??) if thats the case I know the feeling my Jeep is closed but $100 will convert to an open system, and the Syncros go bad easy, and what do you mean by "big problems"??? Should this scare me away from gettin this year stang??

Oh and how do I go about getting it compression tested, do they need to take it to an auto shop or do they have somethin for it in their own little auto shop deal?

idk what you guys are talking about but i bought my 96gt in october and the top was flawless and all it needed was a new clutch cause the original had 100k miles on it. i just finished installing a King Cobra clutch kit, flywheel, and clutch fork today. i love it. my car is awesome.

btw they have the non PI motors wich make 215 flywheel hp compared to the 99-04's 260 flywheel hp

I don't think that is what people really mean, clutches go bad in sports cars, especially when they get higher mileage. I wouldn't worry about that too much, but the price scares me, my friend is in the process of buying a 96 GT for a project car, it has 110k miles, but really clean inside and out, only real problem is the paint is black and fading on the hood and roof. He is only paying $4500, but the guy was asking $4500 obo, so my friend is actually trying to get it off of the guy for $3500, and I think he is going to. Also, maybe swing the car by an oil changing station and ask them to check the car for any signs of leaks, most shops will do that for free, and anyone can check that for you. Good Luck, but if they don't come down on the price look for a better deal.

Wow not a bad deal. I traded my tsi awd in on my 98 gt vert, fully loaded, leather with 70k. I got a great deal on the trade-3500, but got kbb on the car, 10,500. Not a great deal, but the car had never seen salt, snow, or rain.

Ya i got my 96 5 speed, 1 owner, lady driven since 96, 87k on it, no accidents ever, no major problems ever, car doesnt have 1 dent or scratch on it, brand new tires, new clutch, plugs, belts, no leaks, creaks, rattles, car runs like brand new and the salesman who owns an 03 cobra said he has never seen a 96 in such good condition and one that feels brand new. I got it for 5k OTD from a toyota dealer cause they didnt want a domestic on their lot. , just check everything on the car and make sure you get on it and look at the underside of the car too. My salesman told me to hammer the car to check for knock and noises in the tranny and motor.
