I pay $4.99 a quart (8 quarts) and I think my filter is around $11.00. I use a K&N oil filter.

Pure, 100% synthetics are by far the best oil you can use under any circumstance. All the additives are built into the oil but at a much higher standard or performance. Again, Royal Purple, Redline, Amsoil, Mobil 1 are all good choices. Fact is, ANY synthetic, even a "no-name" is far better than a non-synthetic.
As far as additives are concerned, you'll never fully blend any dumped in additive the same as those carefully formulated and blended in at the refinery. Plus most all modern grade synthetics have built in seal conditioners to make sure older vehicles do not form leaks with the much slipperier synthetic. Hey, GTnAZ, you love additives such as Lucas.....check THIS out:

Personally, I threw out all my Lucas oil additives a couple of years ago, not that I really ever used them all that much anyway. NOT what they are cracked up to be. Bottom line is Lucas products do not use any anit-foaming agents (or very little). That is bad ju-ju. Their fuel additive is another story. One of the most important things you can add to your fuel is some form of upper cylinder lubricant. Lucas, among others, not only cleans your intake valves, etc., etc., but also provides a good amount of upper cylinder lubrication. For that matter, so does Marvel Mystery Oil. 4 to 6 oz of MMO to your tank will give you all the upper cylinder lube you need.

But i do agree, using the additive with the gear oil is no good... now i would like to see him use motor oil and Lucas and see how it works together. i bet it isnt the same result!
And i also agree with everyone else that a full synthetic oil is good oil.. i never said it was bad... its just ridiculous for everyone to down additives when they have no clue!
thats all!
