When talking about the IRS Cobras, what does wheel hop actually mean, and how does it affect launching and straight line performance and stuff? Thanks, I'm just curious to know.

i always thought wheel hop meant when cornering, if you hit a bump, the car would jump to the side a bit. but i could be wrong

I would say +1 but I'm not completely positive either. My granddad's 04 cobra hopped when we were taking it around on some mountainy roads. I told him 75 was too fast for this one turn

I thought wheel hop was when you launch and the tires kinda bounce off the ground before they grab, fox bodied cars were famous for that.....

It means the wheel is hopping...

It's quite a literal meaning. Means the tire is literally bouncing on the pavement. Anytime the tire is not in contact with the road, that's a bad thing. No contact means lost traction, whether it's in cornering or straight line performance. It hurts in drag racing, since any time spent off the pavement is time not gripping and driving the vehicle forward.

^^ right i was thinking that too since he mentioned the IRS on the cobras, it could be when one of the wheels jumps a bit then grabs. but im gonna stick with my cornering thing

that could be it. But I'm tellin ya the one turn we went on fast enough the back tires hopped about a foot out when we took the tires. And what you're saying about the fox body could be right. My truck I had was real light in the rear end obviously and had a bad issue with that when I was assin around with some buddies. mine had a soft suspension with the lift that was on it so we were tryin to hop front tires haha

its when the tires are slipping and actualy hop instead of just spinning. I use to destroy my suspension on my old fd rx-7 doing this

hey copr i know exactly what you mean, when i used to drive my 94 vette on the highway, every corner that had a bump would almost land me in the next lane over. that car's suspension was like F-1 stiff
