Default $800 install for clutch

I just called a shop and wondered how much it would be to install a spec 3 clutch and he said for that and resurface the flywheel it will be about $800. is that too much cause right now i dont have 800+almost 400 for a new clutch.

Sounds pretty high to me, my local shop charges 85/hr for labor, that would be over 9 hours of labor (with the flywheel resurface too).

Edit: Just saw you have LTs... it might take that long. With LTs you have to remove em, install the clutch, then put em back, you can't get the clutch without taking them off.

wow 800 for a clutch install is a raping, its really not that hard of a job.

get the car in the air
drain fluid
remove the drive shaft, 12mm 12 point socket
remove the shifter
remove cover over fork and remove clutch cable
remove the lower trans brace with a jack under the tranny
remove the 7 bolts holding the tranny to the engine
slide the tranny out
remove clutch and flywheel
resurface or replace flywheel, replace clutch.
torque flywheel and pressure plate to spec using lock tite on bolts.
align crank with input shaft
reinstall tranny/drive shaft etc and refill tranny
adjust clutch

damn labor down here must be cheap.... i was told by a freind thats a mechanic that its a 4.5 hours job....he said he had somebody that would do it for $200 but $300 if he had to "resurface" the flywheel. but i thought labor was $65/hr at most places. and he told me that if it took a shop more than 4.5 hrs that it was bs

The headers are the issue, I've read of folks paying $400or more just to have them installed and R&R takes even longer...

QUESTION:
Normally, you gotta leave the pressure plate bolts hand tight until after you stab the gearbox back into place. This allows the clutch disc to center on the input shaft. Is this not possible on these cars? (Never done a clutch on a Mustang!)

That is the going rate here in NY if you have long tubes.... But with stock manifolds you can expect around $500 for install and re-surface...
