What engine and turbo is he running and I can tell you.
240's are my other love in life.
And by the way, 300zx TT aren't very quick.. VG30DETT's are ****.
It's an SR20DET, they're single turbo.
Now if he's got a build SR, RB, or a 1/2JZ, you'll need to worry. They can be reallyquick, buta good 95% of the 240's out there are unbuilt, OEM swapped crap.
I suspect the guy has a stock 240sx with an SR20DET he dropped straight in, and a set of cheapo coilovers. It probably puts down 225 or so to the wheels if he's boosting the crap out of it.

what kinda motor is he running? the stock motor w/ a turbo or an SR20DETT w/ Turbo? what supporting mods does he have?

don't under estimate 240. a friend of mine has one and that bastard is quick with it. He can hang with evo and sti. that's something for you to think about.

RE: 240SX Turbo vs. GT
A 240 done right wont hang with evo's and sti's, it'll smoke them. 240's take 2jz's andRB engines with little modification, which are the powerplants found in MKIV Supras and GTR Skylines respectively. It's basically the not so pretty alternative to a really fast import.
Just ask him if the valve cover is silver, red, or black. And they usually have the engine code on them.
Stock SR20DET found in oh sooo many 240sx's. They come with either black or red valve covers depending on the year of the engine. This particular one is from an older Silvia S13. ~205hp.
This is also an SR20DET but it's from a slightly newer Silvia S14. They have black valve covers (commonly called "black top") and have the notch at the end closest to the firewall. They have a little bit more hp. ~220hp.
The newest S15 SR20DET looks much like the S14 version, but it's mated to a 6 speed transmission and produces ~250hp to the crank. This swap is less common because the price/gain ratio is wayyyy worse, they're harder to find, more expensive, and a more troublesome swap. A built S13 red top is as good as any other.
KA24DE - Stock 240sx Engine from 1989-1998
I guarantee you it's either a KA24DE with a turbo ora stock SR20DET. Either way, it'll be slow.
I would post some pics of 2jz's and RB's but I can guarantee he's not running one.

RE: 240SX Turbo vs. GT
Go race him. Its not like us telling you he is super fast is going to make you a better driver or anything. Also with your friends lack of knowledge about cars I wouldnt think he is too good of a driver so you may have that advantage. Anyways report back.

RE: 240SX Turbo vs. GT
I raced my friend 6 times in his91 240 with a red top SR20DET and I raped him everytime. He was only running 7lbs of boost though. He just put the boost up to 12 lbs and we are going to race again when we both get a chance. But you should take him if he is running the stock boost.

RE: 240SX Turbo vs. GT
As noted earlier, a stock 240 with a stock redtop SR20 running stock boost is a really unsturdy, 2700lb, 205 crank hp POS.
At 12 psi, he's probably in the 230hp range at the crank. Give or take a few. But with a little junkyard scrounging and some good hard work, he'll give you a pretty damn hard time.
The great thing about 240's is his car probably costed less than half what yours did, including the SR swap and labor. =/

RE: 240SX Turbo vs. GT
Ok, let me explain.
The naming scheme is XX##XXXX for instance..
SR - Engine line
20 - Displacement (2.0L)
D - DOHC
E - EFI
T - Turbo (or TT is obviously twin turbo)
So an SR20DET is a SR motor with a 2.0L displacement, DOHC, EFI, Turbo.
An RB26DETT (The Skyline GTR engine) would be a RB line motor, 2.6L displacement, DOHC, EFI, twin turbo.
It's just so you can quickly identify an engine.
So you can say, "I've got an RB28DET" easier than an RB26DETT stroked to 2.8L with a single turbo setup.
The common Nissan engines you will hear about involving 240's are:
KA, SR, and RB.
KA - American 240sx
SR - Japanese 240sx (Silvia s13/s14/s15, 180sx, and some various other consumer cars)
RB - Legendary Skyline engine, RB25's are Skyline GTS-T , RB26's are Skyline GTR
You may come across CA18's, RB20's, SR20DE's, etc etc
It's all just japanese efficiency
