Default MY MUSTANG BURNS TOO MUCH GAS. EVEN FOR A MUSTANG

I have a 2000 Mustang GT. My gas mileage is extremely bad. I get maybe 150 to 160 miles for one tank of gas. I have asked a couple of technicians that asked me the same thing. How do you drive. Yes I drive fast, but even when I baby my stang in the city, it is terrible. So far I just put a K&N air filter, replaced the spark plugs, had the fuel injectors cleaned, had the fuel filter cleaned, new OEM drive pulleys installed, anda new serpentine belt. What am I missing??? The engine isa rebuilt engine with about 3000 miles on it. I have thought about widening thedust cover hole (the hole that most of the air goes into the airbox) at the bottom of the car. Doyou think that this will help or hinder?

Any suggestions are appreciated

That is normal. In the city our cars do horrible.

I usually get about 13.5 mpg when just driving around town.

really you get 19 in the city. I didnt even get mileage that good when I was drving my v6 ( but it had 4.10's and I got 18 max city). But that is probablly a combination of me and the really bad stop and go traffic, but mostly me

Wow. Thats really good.

I was getting right at 200 miles per tank, but I just switched from a BBK CAI to a JLT RAI. I've only ran one full tank through since, but I got around 230 miles. Interesting.

To the OP, I agree, something isn't quite right.

Thats normal, I get about 165ish to a tank in the city. Stock gears, everything else listed in sig. Its a lot of stop and go traffic. When you accelerate you car gets around 4-5MPG and in stop in go, theres no crusing just accelerating and then slamming on the brakes. Also when you sit in traffic, you car is burning gas, but not racking up miles, another reason. Also if you go to fast food lines in your car, that can have an effect on mileage, depending on how long the line is. Your normal, theres nothing do about it unless you move to the country and drive 70 everywhere you go.

And if you fill up just before the "idiot light" comes on it is usually about 12.5 gallons
So... 165 miles / 12.5 gallons = 13.2 miles/gallons
Our cars are rated for 16 in the city and you do any "spirited driving" at all, that number goes down the hole. I think that most people here that are getting like betwen 17-20 mpg are doing mixed driving, some hwy some city.
