I would have to say that headers and midpipe might be your best bet for starters. If you can install them yourself, that will save you some too. After that, you might want to look at a tune and chip. That will help you a bit too. I have a nonPI GT mind you but, I went from 185-209rwhp w/ a tune and mild boltons. Good luck. I would say w/ that stuff, you could go about 100-1500ish. You could look for deals on exhaust too to save more cash.

In one swoop, you could port and polish your heads for 600ish and then tune them for 400ish. That will help although, not as much w/o other boltons.

if nitrous is done properly it should be no more harmful than a turbo or supercharger. you wouldnt put a turbo or supercharger on half azz and people that usually have a nitrous backfire arent using it properly or have at somepoint half azzed their setup.
