Heads question
Theres a guy in my area that is experienced in head porting and polishing and has a great reputation so im going to him for work. I have a few questions i need answered. I have a 2000 GT with the WINDSOR motor for reference.
I want to get performance heads BUT i can afford to have the car down for more than a few hours since its my daily driver. So, what i want to do is buy some stock 4.6 heads off a forum or internet ad and let the guy port them and then put them on my car when i have the funds and time this summer.
1. Is there a difference in the Romeo and Windsor heads? Meaning, when searching around and i find a killer deal on 2001-2004 PI heads will they fit my car or not? Will i HAVE to buy 99-00 heads specifically?
2. Since PI heads are NPI heads slightly ported from the factory, can i also extend my search to NON-PI heads that can be found EVEN cheaper? If that truecan i just get the NPI heads and get them ported so that they flow waaay more than stock PI heads flow? (ive searched and heard this is just as effective as porting the PI heads).
3. If i find NPI heads, how do i know they will fit my windsor motor? Are all 96-98 NPI motors windsor blocks? (ive read the sn95 cobras are romeos)

RE: Heads question
96-98 NPI's are all Romeo's. For PI - Windsors are 99-01 Romeo 02-04 (this only holds true for Mustang 2v's not Crown Vics) Only difference in R/W are the valve covers and bolt pattern for the Cam cover (valve cover).
If you find Romeos then you'll need new valve covers.

RE: Heads question
So they interchangable as long as you use the appropriate valve covers. Any spark plugs are ok also i assume... great thanks guys. Theres NPI heads in perfect condition for $130 on the other side of town, i guess ill be picking those up!
