Rethinking my life. . .

RE: Rethinking my life. . .
Ben, you are comparing our 200-300 hp TQless wonders to huge high revving V8's or V10's. When you have 600hp, you don't NEED gearing. Your power can push you through the gears.
You are I are riding around with mid 300rwhp, and we do NEED some help getting through the gears.

Are you 100% sure that you are not severely overexagerating? My buddy has a low 11 second 01 SS Camaro. It has 3: 89s full exhaust and a 150 shot and we struggle to get to 150......
Im not calling you a liar or anything but i find it very hard to beleive that you can do those speeds with such ease... Even when he was stock gearing he had trouble at those speeds.

I've beaten cars top end on the I80 more times than I can count. With my stock 215 NPI I burried deep past 150 and left Roushes, beamers and Porches in my wake. My Dyno speed alone in 4th gear was 160+mph. The problem is I am rarely ever racing top end super cars.
If I where to build an ultimate motor for super car status. It would have to a low compression, 30lbs of boost, small displacement with a short stroke. When I get my SC i'll be waiting on the gears to see how she drives at around 380-3900hp with my stock gears.

Ilove my 4.10s for the power and grunt only thing I wish is that I could get more speed out of each gear. If I could do it all over I think I would go with 3.55 gears and a blower. Only good thing is w/ 4.10s I will be able to have my car in boost readily available.

Wind resistance will not allow our cars (at least without significantly more hp) to reach their maximum speed our gears will let us go. In fact with a little lower gears our cars can probably have a little better top speed in 5th because we will be at higher rpm (thus making more power) when the wind resistance really comes into play.

gear's dont affect your top speed. if it does not much
some guy on svtperf. gps'd at 165 with minor bolt on's and 4.30's. also did a i believe 175 downhill.

A 4.10 car at 6000 rpm will be at 111mph in 4th and a car with 2.73's will be 167.8mph so it does affect speeds. Speeds with Overdrive or 5th is 4.10= 167 and 2.73= 251mph
Those numbers are a big difference if you ask me.
Check the calculator yourself.

RE: Rethinking my life. . .
There's no aerodynamic drag on a dyno, so speedometer readings from that experience are irrelevant to most discussions...It takes 210 HP or so to push a 94+ Mustang GT to 150mph (here's my HP versus speed calculator), so it's entirely likely that sxynerd can hit 150+ in 4th with his 2.73 gears. Probably quite smartly to as he'll be coming up right through the meat of the powerband--150 mphwould beright around 5500 rpm (speed versus gear/gears calculator). In 5th gear the 2.73s wouldhurt top speed as 150 mph wouldsee the enginedown around 3700 rpm, where there's no wayit would be capable of making the required 210 HP--probably more like 160 to 170 max which would only be enough to push the car to 135/140 with the pedal to the metal...

If I’m not considering Air speed friction or thermodynamics, my question is; Does the calculators stay accurate for true "engine" characteristics? Or is it merely an algorithm based on estimation of numbers inputted for tire height and rpm's?

When I had 3.27s before the blower the car would pull pretty good up until the top of 4th gear then it would pull 5th gear reallllly slow...
With 4.10s I believe it would run faster top end than it would with 3.27s just because it wouldn't hardly pull the higher gear...
Now with the supercharger it pulls hard until about 135.. I've had it to about 140 and believe it will bury the hand, but after 135 it gains slow...
