I think you're coming off the line a little weak and probably bogging.

My first trip to the track was a lot like yours, save for missing all the time (I missed 3rd 2 times).

I was trying to feather the clutch out way too low because everyone had said that spinning is horrible. I was running BARELY into the 14's all night.

Last run I said screw it and dumped the clutch around 3500...got my 60' down to 2.2 and ran a 14.5

WHich is still ****ty considering I'm down to 13.8 on a 2.0 now with the same mods.

Next time you'll be almost as nervous, just take your time and get into the flow of things.

i was coming off the line and bogging a little bit... but i was trying not to spin. i saw a bunch of cars just gunning it off the line and spinning like crazy with 2.7 60"... including a mach 1 and many GT's s197 and new edge..

im was trying to figure out a good way to launch but at englishtown, you only get 3 runs and then ur done for the night... i think we are all going to go up to island dragway and pay $10 for all night racing... althgouh its a sh*ttier track, my friends and i just need more time at the track..

Well, if you've got some dough laying around (i know everyone does[8D]) get a set of 15" rims and some decent drag radials.

Traction alone, as well as some more seat time will vastly improve your times.

I suggest coming off the line around 3500-4K with a lot of clutch.

Wait until your rolling and start the balancing act. It's really hit or miss.

If you're giving it too much throttle you'll spin as you watched others do. Too little throttle and you'll either bog, or just run a ****ty time.

My 14.545@99.XX was on a 2.22 60'
now my best is a 13.879@100.8X with a 2.02 60'

of course a lot of that was shifting better, but the 60' helped too

the best advise I can give any n00b at the track is to just try and relax. I know that can be easier said than done, but try your best. The next tip is to launch as if you are trying to beat someone off a red light. Nothing radical, just nice and easy. With some practice you'll get into the 2.0 rage for 60' and probably dip into the 13's.

alright thanks for the advice guys... ill try revving up higher since i really didnt spin at all launching around 2k

and the red light tip is a good idea.. i seem to race better on the street when i speed up to the speed limit from a red light. it makes no sense

The best scenario for launching on street tires is MINIMAL spin. If you are bogging, it will not gonna be good.

well i bogged on both of my first runs when dumping the clutch at about 2.. didnt spin at all really.. than my last run i feathered the clutch and launched at way too low of an rpm so i got the worst launch outta all 3 runs.. i felt as though it was better to bog than spin but i guess i shoulda just tried dumping the clutch at like 3

you have to start leaving the line when the last yellow light starts... i dont even bother with the green light because if you wait and go by that youll be sitting at the line. Might be corny but once the first yellow light starts i have a beat in my head of when they will light to get my timing down. Your times will get better my first time i was like shaking and sweating haha, its a lot different then the streets. My best time my first time was 13.7 and then just by tryin new things my second time out i was at 13.5 and im waiting to go again.
