INTAKE SPACER DYNO
hey guys i was just watching horsepower tv and they were testing a new lsx engine from chevy... the surprising thing though was that on the dyno it made 642hp, and then they just added an intake spacer and tested it again at 660hp.. that was an 18hp gain from a spacer...has anyone ever tested an intake spacer on the dyno in a mustang? i have heard it is garbage, but....all i could say was wow when i was watching this...

Horsepower TV is a joke... Although entertaining, it's more wrong than right. 5.0 magazine tested one on one of their cars in 2001 and had a power gain of 5 rwhp BUT they admited to a gap in dyno time in which there was a temperature change with a drop in barometric pressure. I just threw away all my old magazines so I can't retrieve which issue or article. I am willing to say that, unless the price was in the 20-40$ range it wouldn't be worth it.
To my knowledge, and couple years on this site I have not read about anyone testing these spacers for themselves. Although this exact question pops up about every 6 months.

I put the spacers on when I did t-body and upper plenum couldnt tell ya dyno numbers though I'm not one to run to a dyno everytime I install a part. matter of fact I wont hit a dyno till I'm all done. but from my experience they help in the upper revs she just keeps pulling

RE: INTAKE SPACER DYNO
that dyno on Horsepower TV was just an engine dyno, no accessories hooked up. With accessories, that motor wouldn't be pumping out that much hp and it would be even less in rwhp gains for the spacer....so i'd doubt on a street car that you'd see that 20 hp gain...unless it's s/c'd or something. Plus the engine was a lot bigger than our 281[&:]

I paid $30 for the one I had on my old motor. I don't know how much HP (if any) I may have gained but it was a cheap mod. www.intakespacer.com
