Alright... I have a leak coming out of the grommet that the filler tube goes in. I was wondering, instead of dropping the tank again, can we just unbolt the three bolts at the gas cap and pull the filler tube out that way???

Ithink you will have to lower the tank to be able to put the new grommet in without ripping it.

Hate to bring a post back from the dead like this, but I had to replace the fuel pump on my 2000 GT and have a leak from the same place. I will have to go to a Ford dealership to get a new grommet and was already planning on having to drop the tank again to replace it.

I saw in an earlier post of yours where you posted the directions you had about doing the install. In it you bolded and underlined a sentence about how you have to carefully cut the outer edge of the grommet to facilitate removal of the filler tube and to be careful to avoid damage to a check valve. Well, as far as I can recall the dude who was helping me and I just yanked the tube out of the tank without even touching the grommet (should have done my homework first).

Aside from the leak, the car drives just fine, but the check engine light came on a few days later. Does anyone know if this (the possibility of damaging the check valve) might have caused the light to come on? Or perhaps doing a fuel pump replacement causes the light to come on anyway and it is just a code that needs to be cleared? I don't have a handheld tuner, and I sure as hell don't want to take it to a shop and get charged $90 for a diagnosis unless it may be something serious. Any advice or words of wisdom would be appreciated.
