Default any free-mods to start out modding?

My friend just got an 01 GT deluxe 5-speed. Silver with custom painted black ram scoop and black spoiler. The only thing done to it was the previous owner added a CAI. Hes tight on cash, but im trying to help him out on some free-mods as well as low-cost performance items for the time being until he’s back on his feet to spend more money. I was thinking since he has a CAI to do a home ported TB, inlet and outlet, but would he need to retune the car for the add’l added air or is he alright with it and not risk running too lean? Any other suggestions and advices is greatly appreciated!

just wait when he's back up on his feet, then mod. anything like that isn't really going to do much. For free the only real thing to do is like removing the back seat, and all the stuff in the trunk; spare, jack, liner.

hmm makes sense. i found a guy who has a ported 02 TB for $20 w/o the tps sensor but he suggested the pcm gets retuned for the added air.i could do the porting on my friend's TB for free with no problems, just the aprt where the guy selling the tb said to retune the pcm kinda got me thinking. thanks for the suggestion though on waiting til he's situated

I don't think you have to retune it, I don't think it will trigger the SES light, although after you get a lot more mods then have it retuned for a lot better performance a tune on a near stock motor won't gain more than 2-3 rwhp.

Gas pedal mod. Involved taking the slack out of the throttle cable. Its in the stickies. Won't exactly give you more power but it feels nicer.

maybe the IAC mod? Its also in the stickies..

can help bring rev's back down a little quicker if they seem to hang up coming back down to an idle.

Definately keep saving. I'm usually strapped for cash, so it just makes it that much better when I finally do get to throw some new parts on my car Many people here have probably started out, at some point, scrounging together money for months for a catback and asking for nothing but parts and cash for christmas.
