Default New SCT X3

Hi everyone, I just installed my SCt x3 and ran the tune that they program for me. However, I did have the option of changing the reb limit. do you know what would be a safe limit to move it to. It is now at 6500 RPM limit from stock, aside fromchanging the computer from 87 to 93 octane I can't tell if any other mods were completed. I will test drive it later to see if there were any horpower gains. but I want to know if I should change the RPM to a higher limit and what other changes can I accomplish with this SCT X3? to get more throttle response and horsepower

Unless you have the mods to make power at that rpm its pretty much pointless, otherwise you're just putting extra stress on your engine. Keep it at the stock redline.

+1 there would be no sense in raising the rev limit any higher unless you had mods to support it.

dude no point in raising rev limiter. you run the risk of floating a valve and doing damage to some internals.

i am assuming you have a manual, because if you have an auto, you would have seen HUGE differences.....i would say it is safe to assume that the person who wrote the tune knows a little more about tuning than you or I do, so if you would benifit from anything else, they would have done it

I don't see why you'd want to raise the limiter. Don't our cars make the most power in the mid-range RPM's anyway? ....These aren't 4 banger, rice rockets that make peak Hp and Tq @ 7000rpm.

ACTUALLY. Raising the RPM limit makes a lot of sense for some folks that do alot of drag racing. Most 2v guys here will know going through the traps requires a 3-4 shift to avoid hitting the limiter with bolt-ons and a stock gear. Avoiding the shift 20ft before you hit the traps could knock off a tenth.
