Okay, I have had a recent string of bad luck. First was the alternator and battery replacement. Then my auto transmission died on me. Yeah, big bucks! Thing is, my car still makes a really weird noise when I accelerate in the overdrive gear. It makes this kind of metallic grinding noise when I give it a little gas at cruising speed and then trails off when I've stopped accelerating. It doesn't do this in any other gear. Also when it shifts it steps out on the passenger side whenever I'm on the gas. Maybe my differential needs to be rebuilt? Help me out! My mechanic tells me it's probably just detonation but then why wouldn't I hear the grinding all the time? HELP ME!
