Default Im starting to get a little worried...

Lately I have been having to put about a quart or so of motor oil in my car to top it off once a month or around every 5 weeks. to me this seems like a lot, am i burning oil?by the way, the car has 81,000 miles on it and I am running Quaker state full synthetic changed at 80,000.

Anyway

Is it leaking oil?? Have you checked?

Pull a couple spark plugs and check their condition

i run pennzoil platinum full synthetic 5w-30 and at about 2500-3000 miles i have to add a half quart to get back up to full. i have no leaks anywhere and dont burn any oil out of the exaust. its been like this since the day i bought it with 40,000 miles on it

These engines use oil, but you shouldn't be putting in a quart a month. Check your exhaust pipes for an oily film and check for any obvious leaks anywhere especially near the filter or pan.

ya mine does the same thing, but instead of a month i have to top it off like every 3 weeks if i drive regularly. no leaks, not going out my exhaust (and i know this because i had my dad follow me while driving a couple miles...its weird. but i gues the only real way to tell if its going on the back is by doing a leak down test to see how worn the rings are.

I drive probably 400-500 miles a month maybe. It varies per month but I got the car in august with 79,xxx miles so i have had the car for like 6 months. Now it has 81,xxx so 2,000 - 2,500 miles every 6 months... not that much driving. I also wouldn't say that i beat on my car either, i mean its a mustang so you punch it every once in a mile lol. but really i take car of my stuff. By the way I bought it from an older lady who was the first owner and with all the documentation they gave me as far as up-keep goes, there is no dobt in my mind they were very meticulous owners. No signs of a leak either. I would notice an oil spot in my driveway if i was loosing a quart a month so i dont think its leaking oil. Just put on a bassani x pipe and it was on a lift but my dad didnt notice anything and he is the kind of person that would notice it.

what oil were they using before you got it if it is different go to what they have been using and also if it is in the cross hatch area its good if i fill mine all the up to the top line of the which is about 6 1/2 quarts it will lose that 1/2 quart and stay dead center of the cross hatch for 5,000 miles.
