Default End all tires thread - let's get some input

After seeing about 50 tire threads in the past few days I thought I would see what all information we could get pertaining to street tires, drag radials, and slicks. Hoping that we get enough GOOD info to add this to the newbie sticky at the top. Please share from experience only. Info can be general info about a tire(s), what tires work best for what rim sizes, and/or info from experience (ie how it performed/how long it lasted at the track/street).

From my experience.

For the street - General Exclaim UHP 245/45/17s are a good street tire with decent dry traction for a near stock GT such as mine.

For the strip - Nitto 555r 275/40/17s are a nice longer lasting drag radial for a stockish GT, but do seem to get a bad rap with higher powered cars.

For my 275s nitto 555s hold the road great and get awesome traction even with my 4.10s. They are great in the rain to.

I have heard good things about them...

are they a good gripping tire? how long can one expect them to last (if you have gone through a set of them)?

+1

Even as wide as mine are, 315. They still don't grip as well as they should.
But they do just fine for street. Quiet, smooth, and decent tread wear.

They're rated average on tirerack and discount tire. For $115 a tire, I can't complain.

I would rather pay for above average. They don't grip in a straight line and they don't grip laterally.

do you have a suggestion then? Not meaning to come off like a jerk, but it would be better for the thread if you could provide a preference. Just shooting down someone else's tire doesn't help without a suitable replacement Thanks.
