On rainy days I always start off in 2nd gear. I have done that with every rwd manual car I have owned.

right, not too often. starting in 1st would be less stressful on the drivetrain. Unlike the track were i would rev up to 4k and pop the clutch, that is stressful on the car but starting out nice in 2nd and just going normal isn't that much harder than first especially w/ the 4.10's which make it easier to rotate the wheels. I start in 2nd in the rain, ect i have always done that even with my 88 jeep wrangler. I say that it isn't going to hurt your car if you do that on the street, but like you said it would be less stressful on the car.

skip shifting does that really help? i dont see how, I usually start in 2nd and usually shift around 1800-2000rpm if i skip to 4th still shifting at around 2k i feel like the car bogs a little then i have to push the pedal down a little further which of course just wastes more fuel.

I skip shift all the time.. usually i got 1-2-4 or 1-2-3-5 I just get up to the speed limit and put it in w/e gear is good for that speed(if its under 40 it goes in 40th over 40 it goes in 5th) this is with 4.10s mind u
