Default IMRC Plates Question ??

Well as you guys know im putting a Mk8 engine in my gt.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way i can still use the IMRC as i dont really want to give up the low end torque. I was planning to just get rid of them but it doesnt look like thats that good of an idea. The only thing i can think of is maybe hooking the cables up to the main throttle and setting them to open at about 80% throttle. That way if im racing or whatever i can just part throttle it untill it gets up around 4000 rpm then open it to wot.

Any suggestions?

im sure you could find an electric actuator, make a bracket for it and use an rpm swith to open the plates via the actuator.

You can't use your stock computer to controll the IMRC plates. You will have to swap to a cobra (96-98) computer or mk8.

Excellent idea, did some research and this will be easy. Thanks for the input.

Default Update on project

Ok so i went to the shop tonight to get some ideas for an actuator to do this with and i decided to see if i might be able to use the Mk8 servo assy.

Well i took out the 4 screws that hold the cover on and had to pry the lid off because its glued on i suppose to waterproof it. Inside i found that it is much simpler than i expected. It just uses a small 12v motor with a simple controller that was easy to bypass. Here is a pic of the unit with the circuit board removed.

I shot a video of my test in action and as soon as its finished processing on youtube which seems to be taking forever tonight ill add the link.

I found this RPM Switch on Summit,

Along with this 4000 rpm pill

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...Y11513&FROM=MG

Total cost approx $110 shipped to me.

Ok here is the video showing the function of the servo in action. There are just 2 wires (red - positive and black - negative) and i just jumped them with a battery for the test.

It should be a pretty simple setup, i also intend it use a relay for the motor load as i do not know the load rating of the rpm switch.

People have tried the summit switch and failed miserably. PLEASE at least listen to this advice, it was given to me before I tried for 2 monthes to get the imrc's to work.screw the IMRC's get gears and its problem solved .You dont need the imrc's, the loss of torque is about 14 ft lbs until 3000 rpms and the hp gain is 5 rwhp through the whole top part of the rpms with the delete. If you do a shortrunner intake in correlation to the imrc delete you can make up that torque and pick up around 20 rwhp with a proper exhaust.

I'd also recommend a delete. 4.10s will solve any low end issues, and you are only going to be in those low RPMs for a second or so tops. What has me thinking is if you supply power to that motor, what keeps the motor from trying to open the plates even further once the plates are open 100%. Know what I mean?
