i had to negotiate to pay for my own head and tail light, and my own fuel door...they said they will fix the rest...i was about 200 over being totaled so i am putting the stock headlights in, and leaving the tail for now since its a small crack...and a scrape on my fuel door...theyre gonna fix the rest

You have to leave a scratch in your fuel door because you are $200 over the limit for totalling? Are you kidding?

If your insurance company doesn't have a say in who works on your car, bring it to another shop for appraisal. Any respectable shop would take care of that fuel door for you and possibly have a better price so you can get the other parts you need. I would run from that first shop at all costs.

Unless he has a junk insurance company, he can shop and definitely find a shop that wants his business and will take care of a scratch for him.

I don't think you quite understood what I said. I wasn't implying to have it totalled and take a check for a previously rebuilt car. I was merely telling him any decent body shop wouldn't leave behind a scratch on a friggin fuel door.

+1 on shopping around. I just went up to the ford dealership and they quoted me $1200 to paint from the doors back on my and then went to another place in town and it was just over $900.

bring the painter a cheeseburger and a 12pack of beer and tell him instead of throwing out that leftover paint to just dump it out on the other spots you need fixed. It worked for me, lol.
