Question paying too much for stage 2 cams/springs?

Well I finally decided to purchase stage 2 cams w/ springs for my stang. Do you guys know if I am getting a good deal or not? Parts are all brand new.

Cams+Springs $950 (est. could be a lil less, I will know sometime today)
Labor $800
Re-tune + dyno test $350

The only thing that looks off to me is that the re-tune looks fairly expensive. I am in the NC Charlotte area. Any ideas if these are normal prices? Thank you so much.

Holy labor charge batman. Thats why I do it all my self.

Cams $500 springs $300 so $950 is a bit high for cams and springs.

Dyno tune look about right.

Welcome to the Forums.

What cams and springs are you planning on going with $950 is a bit much for that.

I don't know how bad the install labor is because I did mine myself but that still seems high, but the $350 for a Dyno tune isn't too far off.

Also judging by your name and your location, I'm guessing you are a UNCC student. What color and whats done to your car? I may have seen you on Campus.

I am having the shop email me the part numbers as we speak.

I will be going to UNCC this coming fall, but I do live in the university area.

I have a Redfire GT w/ BBK LT heads, BBK short o/r h, Borla stinger exhaust, JLT cold air, 4.10 gears, and a nice tune for 93. I cant wait for my cams

Ya..will be interesting to see the part #'s to see what you are being quoted...as $950 is pretty high. My Stage 2 cams and Comp springs will hit you for $758.10.

You're getting raped on labor. Ask around on the forums man. I am sure there is a nice, willing sole to install in you're area for half that, or somewhere around there. And the good thing about having someone on here or or friend/mechanic doing it, is the fact that you will get the chance (most of the time) to jump in an learn/help out along the way.

Cams are:
Comp Cams Stage 2 Extream Energy XE 270-AH

Springs are:
Comp Cams (she says) part number 26113-16
Retainers:
part number 792-16

I sent them an email saying i found what I needed cheaper on american muscle with free shipping. I will see what they say. I hope they knock about $100-$150 off the cost of parts, cuz thats way to much.

I dont know how to haggle labor costs though, I dont know how much they charge an hr, or how long it will take to complete.

I will let u guys know.... Anyways, how do the COmp cams extreame energy sound anyways?

I don't think I have ever actually herd a set in person.

As for the labor goes, the easiest way to haggle labor is to take it to another shop and get estimates.

I wouldn't do it for any less than $800, its a solid day's work and I stand behind whatever I do. If the shop in question is the same then it's a fair price--keep in mind that whomever you are paying to do it needs to cover overhead (rent, property taxes, heat, AC, cost of tools and equipment, etc.) and have enough left to pay the mortgage and feed their family too.

If it's a shop with employees then they need to make enough to pay the costs listed above, and the wages that the guy that does the work gets (and FICA and Medicare taxes, workers compensation and liability insurance, and payroll processing costs, business taxes, etc.), and still enough left over to pay the owner's mortgage and feed his family.

It costs a lot of money to run a legitimate business in this country--even if you have a lousy one-man sole-proprietor operation the Feds take 15.3% of what you make right off the top, income taxes come next...
