Default Transmission help

In the last year or so I had to replace my 2nd gear and syncros because they wouldn't hold anymore. Well it happened again last week and I was to,d that they can fix it but it would need to be fixed again in another 8-12 months and it would just be smarter to get a stronger transmission. My car is a 2001 gt with all the bolt ons( intake, throttle body, upper plenum, under drive pullies, full exhaust, gears, tune) it also has upgraded heads and cams. So what do I go with. I've never looked into aftermarket transmissions before and need help thanks.

that's bs. assuming you have a late model 01 with the 3650 you can get a rebuild kit with all the tsb updated items for around 700 i believe and that should be fine at your level for many years.

IF you really want aftermarket trans so you dont have to worry about it. i'd recommend a tko if money is somewhat of an issue, either a 500, 3550, or 600 they will all hold your power with ease. or if you have some play money get a t56 from a cobra.

I don't beat on it very much. It's a daily driver and very now and again I'll go a little hard but no clutch dumps or anything like that. Usually just full acceleration through 4th gear whenever I need a little excitement so I don't understand how it can keep going out like that

well if moneys tight then get a good quality rebuild kit and take it somewhere else to get done. from the sounds of it the place you went before doesn't know what they're doing if they say you have to rebuild it every year.

Don't mean to jack your thread OP!

ctg, how much does a t56 cost (I thought I might have seen one for $4500)? And what kind of power can it handle? I plan to replace mine within the next year, and do a build to get 450 RWHP.

That is pretty pricey unless that includes the entire swap kit.. You can get a new T56 Magnum kit for around 4K.. Tranny only about 3K or less.. and they are way more than enough to handle the amount of power and torque you want to make.

On the inside of your driver door in the frame (same sticker as color code) there will be a transmission code. Get it and search it online.
