Default 4.6 cobra questions

hey guys whats up? i was thinking about buying a 97 cobra. i found one on craigslist for 5500 bucks. the car is pretty tastefully modded with 111,050 miles on it. is the mileage something to worry about? what else should i look for? i know sn95's pretty good because i own one, just not the 4.6 engines. any input would be great and much appreciated. thanks guys

Define "tastefully modded"

I would be a little weary of a car with those miles that is heavily modded.

Well, you can certainly bet that it has been beat on, but not a lot of Mustangs out there haven't. I would just go drive it, just cruising around in it will probably give you some idea on if the car has been beat to death or just halfway beat to death lol.

Na, just the normal man. Check all the fluids, make sure the oil looks good, etc. Inspect the motor overall for any kind of oil, look for relatively new parts. Make sure the tranny shifts good and doesn't have any kind of snags while running through the gears. Check core support and fender bolts, you can generally tell if the car has been in an accident if things are a different color or not lining up, ask lots of questions, blah blah blah....

Just use common sense really man, obviously this won't be the first car that you've bought.

well as pointed out, recently, if you don't beat on a car once and awhile then decide to beat on it all of a sudden after 100k miles of shifting at 2.5krpms you will crack rings, its better to have had a car that was "broken in" and taken to 6800 rpms a few times, if you ever plan on taking it there yourself. Besides, all of those things are not engine components, the engine itself is stock, it should last a goood many miles, hell he replaced/upgraded alot of suspenison which is usually just mantiance you have to do with cars 10-20 years old.

see if u can't talk him down to like 5200 or something, sounds like a good deal.

The only problem is... 96 cobras are pretty slow...

that ones got low 13s all over it as it sits, 12s easy with gears and a tire, gears may not even be needed.

I thought so too.. I bought my 98 with 100k miles, and spun a rod bearing 6k miles later... I guess it didnt like 7100rpm blasts

After the new motor, 410s, pulleys, and x-pipe it trapped 108-109 an ran high 12s on bald street tires.
