Default Tires for my 98 GT

I know I know this belongs in the tire thread but I was looking for input from you guys!

I have currently 255 40 17 and they look ridiculously small for the wheel well. They are now worn and I want to replace them.

What over size tire will fit and do you guys suggest?

The wider and taller the better I just don't know what will fit. My 17 inch rims are the same size as the stock ones width wise I think like 8.5in??

Thanks for not moving me to the darn tire section!

Are you into drag racing or corner carving?

Actually more cornering and wear. I am in Phoenix and its pretty hard on the softer compounds. But I was thinking of 255 x 45 x 17. Just want to know what others are running.

This is a size question. What is the largest size I can put on this? Rims are close to stock.

The widest fitment per nearly all manufactures is a 245 for an 8" wheel.

Hoss is correct that a lot of people run a 275 on an 8" wheel, but is a poor fit. I think a 275 is a poor fit on a 9" wheel, but I am a cornering guy.

Sounds like you want a larger diameter tire MORE than a wider one. This is going to depend somewhat on your ride height, but really don't want to be more than 26" overall diameter tires. I run a 25.6" up front and only slightly clear. Of course, I am VERY low, but if you hit a large bump at high-speed, you will be as low as me for at least a short time.

I would not go higher than a 255/45/17" tire on your ride.
