Default Battery light comes on spontaneously

I just got this car last Tuesday. It was dirty as hellll under the hood so me and a buddy took a bottle of Simple Green and a power washer to it.

We avoided the battery, MAF, and alternator as best we could but when we started it back up it was running a little rough. Got it back to the house and let it dry overnight. No problems the next morning except that my battery light came on briefly two times on the way to class.

Then it doesn't come back on at all again until tonight. It just flickered on for about 5 seconds then turned back off.

Think I fried the alternator or something? I didn't hit it directly with the power washer but its kinda hard to avoid not getting it wet at all. I'm going to hit up an OReilly's tomorrow and have them test voltage to the battery and alternator but I figured I'd see what you all thought also.

Oh and my voltage meter is not reading low at all.

Try putting a multimeter on the battery with the car running. The voltage should be around 14 volts or so DC. That will tell you that the alternator is working right. You can get the alternator rebuilt for only like 50 bucks or less and it's relly easy to remove and install. At least my 96 was back in the day.

a diode that is going bad in the alternator will sometime cause a batt light to go on and off. i would suspect the alternator.

It may have been running badly because of water getting around the COP's.

I am having the same problem too. It started after I had to replace my belt tensioner pulley because it was really bad. My alternator light wont stop blinking now even after I replaced the alternator too. My headlights blink too lol but the power is right at 14 so I dont understand why it blinks.
