Question DIY Gears or shop?

Was thinking of doing some gears in my 5speed 2000 GT. Was wondering if anyone has done gears them self or if they usually take it to a shop. If taken to a shop whats a good price for install, if done at home, any write ups, tips, or words of wisdom that will help. Which brand of gears should I get, always was told that FRPP or motive gears. I was thinking of going with Motive 3.90's. Any help appreciated.

unless you have the tools i would take it to a shop. if you have a lift, dial indicator, press, etc...then give it a whirl, but really, i would just take it to a shop. I havent heard anything negative about motive's gears but ill let someone else chime in, heres an example of what you are getting into if you do it urself.

IMO if you even have to ask this question, then you should take it to a shop...

I wouldn't tackle it unless you have all the tools and work on cars. Just spend the money to have it done right.

Gears are not something you do in your driveway if you dont know what you are doing. Spend the $$ to get them installed.

If you have to ask, take it to a shop that specializes in Mustangs or rear ends. $250 to $300 labor is about the norm.
