Exhaust questions - Flowmaster or Magnaflow

I bought a stock 2004 Mustang GT earlier this year. I want exhaust to be my first upgrade, however I'm not sure on what to get. I'm considering a Flowmaster or Magnaflow exhaust kit. I'm more concerned about the exhaust sounding deep than having something too loud. I don't want to drown out my audio by having something too loud in the interior. Because of this, I've been told to either get the Magnaflow Dual Exhaust System (not Magnapack) or the Flowmaster Delta 40's. Would either of these systems match what I'm looking for? How much horsepower can I expect to add? A Magnoflow rep told me that their system would give me 14-16 more hp. Is this true?

Also, if the stock exhaust system is still in good shape, should I consider just getting new mufflers instead of the whole system? Do the full systems really make much more of a difference in sound/performance?

Thanks

I would say you better off getting a full catback because almost all (good) aftermarket catbacks have 2.5" piping compared to the stock 2.25 and are mandrel bent. If you don't want much drone then get the magnaflow's. The regular non-magnapack catback is pretty quiet and the mufflers are straight-through so you still get the performance like other much louder systems like the magnapack or borla stingers.

The regular magnaflow catback will be perfect for your sound and performance wants.

I have welded in Super 44's from Flowmaster but I wish I would've gotten Magnaflow Magnapacks. Get those if you want power. 14-16 extra horsepower MIGHT be possible with a hell of a tune.

Thanks for the advice. I was leaning towards Magnaflow and now I feel more confident in making the purchase. I'm a little concerned about the regular Magnaflow system not giving me a deep enough sound, and I have been looking into the Magnapacks. For anyone who has experienced these, is it too loud inside the car....like to the point where it's hard to have a conversation or hear your music?

I have a friend with an 03 GT with the regular magnaflow catback and I've heard his car and he also says it's pretty quiet. Like I said the both the regular magnaflows and the magnapacks are straight-through systems. The regular magnaflows just have more packing around it so it's quieter. You don't usually really get much drone with straight-through systems.

Have you seen this vid on youtube before?

Neither will be overly loud inside the car, and both will have a deeper tone. The packs will be a little more raw and agressive though.

BTW you will not gain 14-16 hp with any catback alone!

Thanks Strider. I think I'll go with the Magnapacks. I've seen some youtube videos of the Magnapacks, but not that one. That's a good one...pretty much exactly the sound I want.

mrtstang - I didn't think the hp gain would be that significant. I was surprised when he told me that, and that's why I had to ask on here.

If I get the Magnapacks this is how mine could sound. BBK O/R X and the Packs.
