00-04 gt or 2001 Cobra
#21
Well, it isn't as cut and dry as everyone says. If you have $12k to spend, then get the cobra, or you can pick up a $7-8K GT and put $5k worth of mods on it if you like, but the Cobra is still far superior. I would take the Cobra any day of the week.

wow...
ask yourself what your longterm goals are first. Either way, if you're looking to lay down more than 425-450rwhp, you're looking at a built shortblock. Mod for Mod to a point, the 4V motor will make more power and gain more power, but once you start talking about built motors, ported heads and boost, the playing field kinda levels out.
I'm running a GT with a built motor, ported heads, blower cams and a Kenne Bell 2.1. I'm right around the same power level as most of the 2.2 KB 03/04 cobras I come across. Now, theres heads coming out that will supposedly be able to flow even more than a stage II ported stock style 2V head. Add some chunkier cams and a 2V is no joke. Look at the price of doing a ported heads/cams swap on a 2V vs a 4V.
If you do a lot of twisty driving, you'll appreciate the IRS. Launch hard at the track a few times and you'll probably blow it out. I personally like my solid rear of the GT just fine.
If you were doing a bolt-on only car N/A, I'd say get the cobra. It just annoys me how quick people are to discard GT's. For the money I spent on my 03GT initially for purchase, and then in turn on parts, I'm smacking around enough Cobras with similar money invested (because of the SVT's higher purchase prices).
Just things to think about....Everyone expects a Cobra to be fast. nobody expects a GT to be faster....

I am in agreement> I intend to have the same or better performance out of my GT as a termi, with less money invested. Im at 10K invested total right now, i think i have a hell of a car for 10k, i figure by 20K i will be more than able to hold my own with a termi-and nobody will expect it. Thats a big plus in my book.
OP- just carefully wiegh your options and consider your current budget. Alot of fun can be had building the car up to be your own. It all depends how much cheaper you can find a nice GT for. If it were me, I'd look for a nice GT.
