Default To boost or not to boost?

Hi, I have a 1999 mustang GT, it is stock exect for a few bolt ons and a programmer. I have babied to car, all ways used the best products when it was serviced. I am wanting more power out of this car. I wanted to install a supercharger, but my friend said it was a bad idea since the car has 45000 miles on it. Can I run a super charger SAFELY without shortening the life of my engine. If I can, what boost level would be recomended, and what brand charger should I go with? If not, I could use some suggestions on ways to increase the hp to around 400. All comments, suggestions are appriciated!

yes, 10-12lbs, I/C or Meth 450 is "about the max" To keep it safe for me I'd keep it around 425 or an I/C'd 10lbs.

On a well serviced vehicle I would have a problem with adding a S/C even at 100k.

Mine just turned 72k and I just installed a supercharger using the "$1500 supercharger how its done" sticky. I must say its the best money i have ever spent on my car. I went with vortech because their reliable, easy to find, and perfect for keeping your car streetable. I have not put my car on the dyno yet but im running 8lbs and it should be somewhere around 370rwhp. That much power and a good tune you shouldnt have any problems at all.

But really any name brand supercharger: vortech, procharger, paxton, kb..you will be ok with.

It's all about the tune! You can't guarantee 5 miles of life if the tune isn't right. If it is right, there's no reason you should worry about the lifespan of your engine.
DO NOT CHEAP OUT ON THE TUNE! Take it to a reputable tuner. Do NOT use mail-order tunes.

Your friend doesn't know anything about cars........

Like people said above... You will be happy with any S/c you pic. Keep it low boost and a GOOD Dyno tune you will be safe....

Yes you will love your car supercharged but I recommend a keeping power to 380 rwhp or less with a reputual considerative tune at 8 psi.

+1
45,000 miles is low mileage on a mod motor. I had my supercharger installed at 80,000 miles and currently have over 120,000 miles on the car. The tuners I've talked to say to keep a daily driver around 370-380 rwph but with the appropriate supporting mods and a good tune many people have gone higher.

I like ProCharger, but there is nothing wrong with a Vortech. The biggest problem with a supercharger is that you get used to the power and want more. (More is always expensive.)

Yep....over 380-400rwhp it is recommended you upgrade the internals.
