Default Time for a tune-up...

Wells its getting that time. Going to start modding my car this summer, figured I should probably get a full tune-up out of the way first. My car is just hitting 60k miles with stock everything. So Plug Wires are up first on the list. I figured I would probably go with FordRacing wires since there not terribly expensive.
Wires-$74
Spark plugs, any suggestions on these. Right now I don't really have anything that would justify expensive plugs as I don't even have an exhaust or anything yet. Something good midrange would be nice. NGK Vpowers? No idea what to go with here.
Spark Plugs- $XX?
Fuel filter is probably a must. Theres probably not really any after market fuel filters. Probably just pick one up at the local autoparts store. I don't have a manual but where is the fuel filter at? Hopefully its not a bitch to get to like my last car.
Fuel Filter-$10-$20

Other suggestions? Oil change will be done pretty soon also. I read a few things about doing tranny oil and rear gear lube as well, is that really necessary?

Thanks in advance,
Riggs-

i run NGK V-power along with a lot of other people

the fuel filter, just get a motorcraft.

its located in front of the as tank, just jack up the rear, slide in from the back and look up and after the gas tank youll see it....you need a special fuel line disconnect tool tho, i have the plastic set that looks like this...

is it a manual or auto, if its an auto change the fluid and filter or get it flushed somewhere, it should be done every 30k

if its a manual, theres a drain plug and a fill plug, or you can take off the shifter and put it in that way, as far as the fluid i couldnt tell you b/c i have an auto.

rear fluid i just put in some mobil one and got soem friction modifier from ford, and you need a new gasket and rtv as well, not too bad to change, but it STINKS haha

other stuff you could prob do is take off the throttle body and just wipe it down, and also take off the idle air control and clean that with brake cleaner.

thats all i can think of right now, good luck

Unless your running a power adder I would stick with motorcraft plugs. Change your fuel filter, check your dif fluid color, tranny fluid color coolant color all that.

About 4 months ago I bought a 2000 GT 5-speed for my daily driver from the original owner. It's bone stock and is in excellent shape and runs strong after 129k miles. I myself have put on the last 6k or 7k miles as I drive 80 miles round trip to work. For a car with this mileage what is the recommended tune up? Plugs? Wires? Vacuum hoses? Filters? Blinkerfluid? Valves? Things to Clean like Sensors? What should I check for while under the hood on a higher mileage motor? I've had several 289 powered early mustangs, but never an EFI computerized motor so I'm not sure what a "tune-up" consists of on these new-fangled things. I also had a couple little problems that I wasn't sure about.

Yesterday on the way home I had the cruise set at 60 and approaching a stop. The A/C was on and right as I pushed in the clutch the car died. When the car rolled to the stop, It started back up no problem, and I drove the last 20 minutes of my 1hr drive home without any problems. According to another thread here I think that it might be the IAC. I'll try to clean it this weekend as part of my tune-up.

Another small problem: I noticed that sometimes driving at around 2500 RPM in 3rd gear (steady, not accellerating) in traffic in town, the engine seems to vaguely sputter, hardly even noticeable. Is this just a symptom of simply needing a tune-up?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Flushing the cooling system is another good maintenance idea.

Just an FYI-

When you buy your plugs and wires, get them from a reputable seller on ebay-You will save a ton of money, i always get my stuff from ebay.

An example-

I bought 8 NGK plugs, and 8 C.O.P.s which all together would have cost me in the ballpark of 500$, all for just over 100$. Just my 2cents.
