I like driving a manual in winter. I feel I have more control over the car.

I had a 73 Mach 1 and 78 Firebird Formula (both manuals) that did very well in the winter (particularly the Firebird). Then I got an automatic 85 Trans Am and it was horrible in the winter. I know there are other factors...tires, etc., but I even tried the same brand tires on my Trans Am that I had on the Formula and it didn't really help.

Sounds like an auto would fit your situation better and that is a big consideration.

I recently bought a mint used 03 Mach 1 (8,000) miles and when I originally considered getting a Mach 1, I was thinking of an auto..for some of the reasons that have aleady been mentioned. Well, I got the 5 speed manual and couldn't be happier. Wow....I can't wait to get in the car and drive. I haven't been this excited about a new car (used, but to me new) since my first one (73 Mustang Mach 1).

Whatever you do, good luck. Get what suits your needs. If that means an auto fits better, then go for it and enjoy your new ride.

the question you are asking is all personal preference. You either like a manual or you don't. I would say drive both and see what you like better. Personally I wouldnt own an auto sports car. I think it takes away the fun but thats just me. You will learn to do just as much with a manual as you can with an auto. I drive, talk, eat, clean the dust off the dash, feed my kids all with no problems, lolol. I am kidding of course...the point is that you will manage!

i think its funny how most of the people pushing the manual saying its better blah blah blah, and autos suck have never driven a stalled auto. yes i agree an auto w/o a stall sucks *****. but the tables turn substantially when you add a stall, shift kit. and yes ive had m5s, m6s and autos, so i know the difference. but hey do what ya gotta do

manuals
pros - saying that you have a manual, fun bangin gears, 2nd gear burnouts, back road drives are always fun
cons - stop and go traffic, replacing clutches, getting rolled on by a stalled auto from a light

autos
pros - outshifting any manual on the road, killer 60's, stop & go traffic is no big deal,
cons - saying you have an auto, cant bang gears on back roads
