Default Need some advice for beginning mods.

hey guys, this thread is for my cousin serving in iraq right now. he'll be back in december and has already put together a list of parts he wants. i just wanted the experts opinions on what he should and shouldn't do.

First off, its a 2004 GT 5sp 4.6 2v. Has an SLP cat-back, K&N panel filter, 18" saleens w/ 275/45's (i think). thats it.

Heres the list:

-Long tube headers (with MIL? eliminators)
-Pypes off-road H pipe
-flowmaster mufflers
-JLT CAI
-75mm Professional Products TB
-Performance intake elbow (can't remember brand name)
-Performance intake manifold (can't remember brand name)
-SCT tuner
-High flow water pump
-MSD coil packs

its kind of incomplete but i'll get more details as we keep emailing back and forth.

tell me what you guys think...and be honest

thanks

looks good just you dont need the MIL's if you have a tuner.
and you'll need a shorty mid pipe of the same brand as the headers (ie..mac longtubes and mac h pipe)

you wont need an intake elbow and you dont need an intake manifold right now, wait untill your making some more power.

water pump and coil packs are fine for now, same reason as the intake manifold.

get a short throw shifter he will love it..and under drive pullies help some too. assuming he wants all bolt ons

and tell him thanks for serving our country

Agreed! Also, some lowering springs, Steeda X2 ball joints, Tokiko D-Specs, MM Caster/camber plates, MM Bumpsteer kit, Rack relocator kit, MM SFC's, Adjustable rear lower control arms, Del-alum bushings for everything, Eaton Posi, FRPP 4:10 gears in the rear, Moser 31 spline axles.

Shifter, gears, tuner, and subframe connectors. You'll feel the difference with these mods, and they' re compatible with any future upgrades. Good luck.

i told him to ditch the coil packs and water pump for underdrives and a MAF. the water pump and coils were gonna cost something like $700 total and i dont wanna see him waste money like that

im trying to tell him the real power is gonna be from better heads and cams.

i will tell him to get 4.10 gears. what are the factory gears ?

i think stock gears are either 3.27 or 3.22 (can't remember which), he'll probably feel more of a difference from upgrading to 4.10s than if he were to leave stock gears and do every part you've listed. i did all the normal bolt-ons and with my stock gears, didn't see much of a drop at all in my 1/4 mile times until i upgraded to 3.73s.

also, i wouldn't spend the money on a new maf so soon. he's not going to be pushing out huge amounts of power at this point, so spending the money on a new maf won't really gain much (if any) power. for the induction, leave the stock intake and maybe do an aftermarket plenum ("elbow") and 75mm throttle body. even with heads and cams, i'd leave the stock intake manifold. tell him to save up for the new Trick Flow heads, they're the first true aftermarket head for the 2V Mustang, everything else out there is just stock heads that have been ported.

I agree with other suggestions, gears are definite must have. Is there a reason why he wants to get flowmaster over his already owned slp?
