4.10s

wow..
I have 4.10's in my GT, daily driven for 3 summers and 1 winter now with the gears.
The mileage can still easily reach high teens in the city, and mid 20's on highway.
If you drive normal you can shift normal, 1-2-3-4-5....if I'm bored I occasionally skip a gear for entertainment purposes.
But 1st is nowhere near 'too short' for daily driving. Redline comes somewhere around 20mph I believe.
As for helping your 0-60, it's not going to do a lot, but the car is going to pull harder, and with tires, come off the line a lot harder.
My car with stock suspension and 4.10's with DR's cut 1.8 60's....I'd imagine that an average driver *which I'm not on street tires* could feel an obvious improvement with 4.10's if they know how to launch correctly.

once again, i said his 95 cobra, not a 99 GT. different engine, tranny, etc. that i was talkin bout here. i was just throwing in my observations from his vehicle, not trashing 4.10s as whole, just from what i've experinced, in his 95 cobra, not 99 gt. for all i know they might be amazing in a 99 gt, but in a 95 cobra, which is all that i was talking about, they suck for daily city/street driving. his redline in first comes at about 10 mph. i apologize for making such a rash assumption that the gears might be similar in a 99+ gt, but at the time i had no idea i was going to be criticized as though bad-mouthing 4.10s was blasphemy
Even then, 10mph redline? That sounds like an exaggeration!

5.0s make power lower than mod motors. For 5.0's i usually wouldnt go past 3.73's if they are moderatly stock. With mods like heads and cams i wouldnt see why 4.10's would be a problem because your redline will be increased drastically. But with a sixer, you can do gears to it too. It will make it a lot more fun to drive. And in your case, sixers make power down low just like 5.0's and have a different tranny than the 4.6. So i would go with 3.73's if youre gonna do gears to your car.
