I am on quite a few Mark 8 sites and the stock 4r70w trans in the 93-96 Mark 8s have weak internals. The 97-98's are not much better, one of the most common upgrades for Mark 8 owners after adding a blower is a trans from a 03-04 mach 1. hell mine blew apart after 89,000 miles and the car has been stock its whole life. FYI my newly rebuilt 4r70w trans is only rated at 400 ftlbs and thats pushing it. There was over 32 upgrades to the 4r70w since my 95 was made.

i was stating that to the guy that was saying get one from a Mark 8. i was just letting him know that the strongest factory 4r70w trans you can get is from a 03-04 mach 1 that will work with the 4.6 dohc and that guys that install a blower on there Mark 8's are normally installing a new upgraded trans the next week.

that's because it isn't a 4R70W, it's a 4R75W and it's rated to 750LB/ft

will a 97 mark 8 4r70w transmission work on a 2002 mustang GT ? I know that it will bolt right up to my engine but I was told that my computer wouldn't be able to read it and it won't shift is that right ?
