Default I need help with this knocking noise. Please...

I have a 1998 GT 4.6L. I found a video that sounds IDENTICAL to my car...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdZVo...layer_embedded I'm going to lose my mind. I have the motor about 80% pulled out because I have been told 100 times that its a spun bearing. But I've seen SO MANY mixed views about it. I'm assuming if I just get the motor the rest of the way out and pop the pan I'll be able to tell if its a spun bearing....but I dunno how to go about it...replace the bearings...and the crank? Get it machined? I do have aftermarket straight pipes on it...thought maybe I broke a stud and it was smacking the side...

That sound like a spun bearing. So you need to keep going on down to the bottom end.

Look no further, That is a spun bearing!!!!

Think about it with me for a sec, you have a rod and a bearing. Take away the bearing and all you have is the rod banging against the crank.

Edit: Drain the oil and put a magnet in the oil pan see what comes out.

Yup bearing. It always sounds the same. You might as well replace all the bearing while you're in there. Depending on how bad the crank is scored, you might be able to have it machined. If its scored to where you need a bearing to be more than 20 or 30 under, you might as well buy a new crank.

Idk man. I guess it comes down to the way you do your cars. But if I bought a used motor, I'd rebuild it before I put it in the car.
