Deep Water, Now Fuel Pump Problems
It has really been raining here. Yesterday I took a route home that is usually dry and I got into a long stretch of deep water. I was actually surprised that I made it through. Afterwards I noticed the car would occasionally start to die and then restart and run. When I filled up the tank it took a half an hour for the fuel gage to read full. I also noticed that when the car started to die I was loosing fuel pressure. I had hoped that it would dry out in the garage over night.
This morning it was still acting up. It runs OK if I accelerate slower than my grandma. I can even run 65-70. But if I try to drive normal (vacuum lower than 5 inches) it coughs and tries to die. The fuel pressure gage drops off toward zero every time. I'm obviously not getting sufficient fuel flow. Any suggestions.

Where is your air filter located? If it is near the ground that could most definately be your answer. My car misses and runs bad in the rain because water gets all over the filter and the MAF sensor sampler and messes everything up.

Air filter is located in the stock position. In neutral reving the motor it will cough and try to die as well. The supercharger piping held 9 psi so it should be water proof. I don't think its a problem with air flow because the fuel pressure drops off when it does it.
The way the gas gage behaved by taking a half an hour to finally reach the full mark after filling the tank makes me think its an electrical problem. If I remember correctly the fuel pressure driver module (FPDM) controls the voltage to the fuel pump. Is it located under the car? Could that be the problem?
I also discovered that my carpet is wet. I'll clean it tonight.

The mechanic called. The fuel system was not the problem. Water had contaminated the MAF. They cleaned it and said the car was running fine. They also change the oil in the differential because I got some water in it.

At least the problem was not more complicated with the fuel system.
