Default auto vs 5speed

looking into trading my car for a 03-04 gt here soon. Whats a fair price to pay for a good mileage(30-60k) gt at a dealership these days? Im trading my car in so this is the only way for me to go. Also, how much slower are the autos over the 5 speeds?

factory auto's loose grip as miles pile on, the 5 stays the same until slippage starts. I vote 5 even tho this is not a poll

well my gt has a 5 in it and i love it, slammin gears is all in good fun however my 71 nova has a three speed 350 turbo in it with a 3500 stall and it hits pretty hard. so im assuming with a few mods (shift kit and converter) to an auto could be just as good but stock off the lot 5 speed.

I think the only time an auto should be in a sports car is when that **** is so fast you cant possible shift it quick enough to get the fastest R/T..

If you like 5 speed get it if you dont get an auto the difference isnt that much 1/4 mile wise.

Under that criteria alone, I'd say go for the 5 speed. Sure, there are times when you'd rather have an auto (big traffic jams, lots of stop and go traffic), but for those other times...the 5 speed is more fun. Take the Mustang on a nice back road and go through the gears. Downshift into a turn and then punch it and shift on the straight and I think you'll nail the fun factor.

I guess it just depends on what you are more comfortable with. I do believe that most people around here will point you to a 5 speed just on the mention of fun in your post.

I had an auto V6 03 Mustang and it was okay. Nice for a DD. The Mach 1 with a 5 speed is a LOT more fun. The comparison is not very good, because of the great difference in power, but I never was a big fan of the stock auto in the Mustang.

Try to test drive a used Mustang with an auto and 5 speed. That might seal the deal for you. Get what feels right to you....not what we say you should do. I had an auto 96 Z-28 and never regretted it or wished it was a 6 speed. Then again, the stock auto transmission in the Camaro was very, very good.

Good luck and good hunting.

open mouth insert foot! nice comment to make an *** of yourself.........

its really just your preference they are both great and fun to drive. I have had both autos and 5 speeds and they both have pros and cons.
