i have 4.6 problems,

i have a few problems with this car i just got , (01 crown vic)

when i bought this car i forgot to check the oil (i know, mistake)
but when i did it 2 days later, was 3 quarts low!

i filled it up and it seems to be fine but my problem is during those two days it developed a tick that im pretty sure is a exhaust leak but it also developed a hiss or whtisle when cold and only when given rpms, never at idle .the best i can describe it as is a tea kettle with a miss. . it comes from the pass. side head area and has me worried the the low oil might of screwed something up.

but seeing as it goes away when the car gets hot im still hoping its part of the exhaust leak. (but the tick never goes away)

any ideas?

whoa! I'd say MECHANIC SHOP TIME! hurry! call 911

Well one thing definitely sounds like an exhaust leak. The other is more worrisome, it sounds like rod bearing rattling around.

if thats the case i will just have to drive it till it dies then sell it for what i can, i dont have a job so i have no income to fix that big of a problem.

think i should try thicker oil?

If you hav time, just take it to several mechanics. You'll know by good judgement when they're lying. but I dont recommend you ride it till the wheels fall of sort of speak. Think long run/sacrifice because the short run will get you nothing but problems.
Also, if you feel the engine runs nice and strong, it could be a minor problem.

No, thicker oil is never a good idea. I could be wrong, a knock in these 4.6L motors is hard to pin down. I would put my money on a rod and it getting worse though. Drive it and see if it gets any worse.

Cash for Clunkers time lol. You will just have to drive it because most shops will charge you a fee to look at something you have no intention of fixing. So just drive it till it dies.

it runs great, it does have a slight miss if i hold the throttle steady at any rpm but i think it just needs a good tune up or a sensors going bad somewhere.

I wouldn't keep driving it unless I knew what it was. Your new signiture is going to read something like this.

2001 crown vic (ex cop car) 4.6 all stock (blown motor) :)
