Question Faulty Traction Control?

I Have a 99 GT which is 99% stock. I just bought it from a kid who abused it basically. The check engine light isn't coming on and the 135k mile engine is running like a champ. That is until the traction control light comes on and the engine powers down to 20 MPH or so. The problem shows it's ugly face when I accelerate at anything over 1/8th throttle, or on curves, occasionally on straight aways. Nothing is more fun than cruising at 70 straight down a freeway and being forced to 20 MPH. If I disable traction control before driving then no problem. I checked the rearend fluid level, it was over filled, correcting that made the problem better but I am still having occasional fits out of her can anyone tell me if I should be investigating a sensor, or preparing to replace parts of the differential? Any help would be so very appreciated. Obviously I'm newly registered, but I have been perusing this forum for months. There is some great stuff here I just can't find anyone else asking about the same thing.

not to sure on what the problem is but if you cure the prob when u turn it off you could get a traction control delete module to keep it off until you figure it out. not a fix b/c the car shouldnt be doing that but just a suggestion.

It's probably a wheel sensor that is malfunctioning.

i would start to make sure the wheel speed sensors are in good shape and free of debris (they are magnetic and tend to collect bits of metal)...

One of your wheel speed sensors is going bad, scan and replace. That should fix the problem.

Not officially, the deal is I had to clean the car up to be put in long term storage. that included degreasing and pressure cleaning the undercarriage a couple times. after doing so, i drove it for about a 2 hour trip to LA, without a single hick-up. I might have hosed the problem out of the magnetic sensors, or knocked one into cooperating for a bit longer. When I get back to the US the car will come out of storage and get a full rebuild from front to back and bottom up. I will test everything as it is removed and if I find a solid answer. I will post it but that wont help you now, I am leaving for 2 years
