Default Doing an oil change...

Here's the specs: I have an 01 mustang gt with 101k on the clock. I need to do an oil change, so I went in to Autozone to get some 5w20 and the clerk told me to get 10w40 bc of the high mileage. I went with his advice and got Catrol GTX High Mileage 10w40, and a Fram PH2 Oil Filter. Is this right?

That mileage is technically high but not that high. 10w40 is some thick ****, I would have gone with 5w30 maybe.

I would stick with 5w-20, the oil has to be able to travel through our compact engines.

Ok, thats what I thought, I'll take it back for the 5w20. I wish I could have gotten a K&N filter instead of the Fram, but they didn't have any. Any idea what kind so I can order one?

Nothin's wrong with it, I've just heard that the K&N ones are better. W/e just a matter of opinion I guess. BTW 99BlackPonyGT, your car is one of my favorites on this site

thanks...its one of my favorites too haha

can you explain why one is better than the other? not giving you a hard time, im curious. i am really anti-k&n, but if they use a more efficient design or something, it may be worth looking into? what about mobil 1? i think k&n is a horrible company imo...

I picked up my car with 150,000 on it. I switched it to Amsoil 5w-20 right away and have had zero issues with doing so. I would recommend what the oil manufactures say not what the parts guy recommends. Just my .02. Also Amsoil makes a really good drop in filter.

listening to anyone who works at advanced/autozone/oreilleys etc, is a horrible horrible thing to do

only issue switching to amsoil, is if the car hasnt been ran on synthetic its whole life, it may cause some leaks
