if you're just looking for a modestly fast street car all motor go mach 1!
or buy a gt since theyre way cheaper, slap a supercharger on it and be faster than a mach while saving money or atleast breaking even...450rwhp is max youre gonna push with a mach or a gt, so save your cash unless youre a big fan of the mach appearance package

^^^word, some new trickflow heads, nice cams, long tubes and finish off with supercharger and you'll have one hell of a nice mustang with some cash left over to pay the insurance for a year.

Curious why you're telling them '01-'04 instead of a '99-'04GT?

Also, keep your eyes open for lower mileage 99,01 Cobras, and 03-04 Machs...

They've all got similar appearances for the most part, and all can be solid 12 second cars for the price of a blower and supporting mods.

I've seen some good deals on 99 01 cobras lately, don't rule them out just b/c its not a 03-04termi, theres a bunch over at corral.net, theres one for 9.5k with 55k on the clock.

With the dealerships, you are doing it wrong. The second they say look @ this V6, turn around and walk away, don't care if you cut the guy off mid sentence. When he says something, tell him "You weren't listening, I want *insert specs here*, this is not that, so goodbye." If they are still interested in dealing, you now have their full attention, if not, they don't have those vehicles and you are wasting your time. I would find a cobra. I would not bother with the hassle of buying and installing all those parts when you could already have a FI forged engine. But that is up to you.

My overall goals....
I just want a moderatly fast street car. It probably will never see a track, and I doubt I'd ever put a blower on it.
Reliabilty is a must. Not that this would be my only vehicle, but I want something that's cool, pretty fast, and reliable enough that I can spend my time driving it rather than having to wrench on it all the time.
Cobras are sweet, but they are a hell of alot more expensive. I have only scene 2 Machs for sale, but I've seen a billion GTs. I am still waiting to hear from the insurance, but they are all leaning in the totalled direction. Should know in a week or so....

Mach1 seems ideal imo, mach with gears is a fun car.
