I want to order my wheels tomorrow but I hve not been able to decide on what size of wheels to get for a month. I know everyone will say why not just run 17x9 up front and 10.5 out back with 315's but I do not have a boat load of cash and I do not like my choices for 315's. So I have been doing some searching and thinking and this is what I came up with 17x8 in the front with 245/40's and 17x9's out back with 275/40's with spacers later on. The reason I want to go with this setup or all 17x8's with 245's all around is that I want to keep 245's up front so my car does not tramline with all 17x9's my mustang is my every day driver and I do not want to fight my car all the time. Right now I am leaning towards all 17x8's so I can rotate but then again staggered does look bad@$$ but I am just stuck so let me know what you guys think.

Before i got my 315's, i had 17x8 in the front, and 17x9 in the rear with a 1/4" slip on spacer, and it looked pretty good. I vote you go that route.

is it noticeable with and without spacers? u have any pics when u had that setup

It was slightly noticable. It pushed the rears out just enough to match the fronts. I have 1 pic in my photo albumn with that setup. It's not the best photo, but feel free to check it out.

Why not just do 17x9 all around with a 1" spacer in the rear. That's what I plan to do with 03 Cobra wheels this winter

I think your concern about tramlining is over-rated.

This is much like all the buzz on how much of a PITA it was to begin to separate recyclables into different containers when first introduced (talkin' 20 years ago, pepes. So dating myself here). Everyone said how much trouble to separate cans, bottles and such. Now.... we just use separate containers automatically and don't think twice.

You will likely notice tramlining, but soon just deal with it and probably not much even notice it. If it is too expensive to go wider, than so be it. But if your ONLY reason was to avoid this issue, I would tell you to let it go and get the tires/wheels you REALLY want and tramlining be damned!

So tramlining is just the tire wanting to move in its own direction without the driver wanting them to?

And I'm guessing with wider tires this is more common?

A wider tire wants to follow ruts/grooves in the road and tends to pull you around a bit. In the extreme and when you are not used to it on really bad roads, you can give the appearance of being on a few too many beers.

I run 295 "R" tires on 10" wheels up front with 100% Heim jointed suspension, so my car takes tramlining to the extreme. I don't have a problem with it and just part of the driving experience for me.

I am leaning more towards all 17x8's I just dont want people to say oh you should have went with all 17x9's or your mustang looks like a 4x4 and you should have went staggered. Anyone one that went all 17x8's with new wheels please chime in.
