Are my cam gears bolt on?
 

Title says it all. If I get cams are my old gears pressed on or bolt on so that I can install them on the new cams? I have a 2001 that is an eaerly one in some ways. It has the newer water pump pulley but has aa t45 (I think it's t45 because I have a 6 under the TA code and not a K) so I ain't sure.

i know my windsor 99 gt has pressed in gears and when i did the cam swap i had to buy the bolt on gears. i believe all the windsor have pressed in gears and the romeos have the bolt on gears. check your valve covers 13 bolts should be a windsor 11 bolts romeo, check your 8th vin # too. x = windsor and w = romeo

hum my VIN seems to say I have a windsor engine. Can anyone else confirm I need to buy cam gears? Are the cheap enough new or will I need to source used ones?

Any more help guys? What do the cam gears and bolts cost? Part numbers?

Ok after some research it appears I do in fact need the new cam gears to install on the aftermarket cams. So any help finding these gears and bolts would be great. I know someone has had to do it ;)

I would just get the stock Ford cam gears. I don't really like the idea of adjustable cam gears. Call Tousley Ford, they are one of the largest Ford parts dealers and they give a lot of forum discounts out.

That's what I am trying to figure out. If I buy hitech stage 1's will I need to buy press on or bolt on cam gears? Is there even a difference? Are the part numbers different?Can I press the cam gears on the hitech cams myself somehow? If not what is the cost? I didn't plan to run adjustable cam gears :)

I'm not sure which ones you have or want, but Modular Head Shop has them both used and new. Give them a call.

The stock cam gears are notorious for poor degree tolerance and are found typically from plus or minus 4 degrees with some even further beyond that. We pair match these gears to a typical 0.5 degree spec on a stock spec motor.

If your heads and/or block has been decked/surfaced/milled then its about 0.5 additional negative for every 0.008" of material removal. We have not found much difference with old vs new timing chains and/or the crank gears. All the variance seems to be only in the cam gears.
