oh okay. so the o/r h pipe is gunna give me a deeper sound? and what about shortys? why do ppl seem to frown upon them?
Yes, the h will give a deeper sound, but like i said be careful with any o/r mid pipe (x or h) as it's VERY LOUD and raspy/poppy with these mufflers. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to consider.
The reason people say shorties are a waste is because they're not much better than the stock manifolds in general. They will provide a little power and sound, but they usually aren't worth the cost and time for most. Long tubes will provide a deeper sound, and will have a broader power curve as well. They will also provide much better power gains if or when you do some bigger upgrades such as heads and cams, nitrous, supercharger, etc.
One rule of thumb to go with on exhaust, especially since you live in NJ like I do, is to make sure you go stainless steel. Catbacks are pretty reasonable, but if you do a LT/midpipe combo, you're gonna spend some money. But with the weather we deal with, it's worth the money to get something that lasts.
oh alright. say i want to get headers and a cat back. and then a mid pipe later. can you install headers and a catback on a stock mid pipe?
Only shorties will work in that case. Long tubes require a "shorty" mid pipe to work correctly. To be honest you should sit down and think about what you want to do first. It sucks to do something only to realize that you wished you had gone another route...lol.
If i were you i'd buy just the cat back for now, and then do long tubes and a shorty x or h later when you can. Trust me, you'll be glad you did!
