Default Spinning a rod bearing

I have had this happen to me once before with the original motor in my car, and since then, I am terrified of knocking noises (3,000 dollar repair)

WHAT causes this? I put 6 quarts of oil in my car now, in hopes of not spinning a rod. What are ALL the possible causes? Doing donuts at high RPMs and sloshing oil around? Mis-shifting? Revving your car with no incoming air?

Lack of oil or oil pressure, spinning the motor too high, most of the time bad luck.

What did you do when you spun the bearing last time?
