Default Totaled my stang, need help buying new one

I totaled my stang on the way to see the Gamecocks whoop up on Vanderbilt this past weekend. I have my eye on a few cars but one is standing out in particular. It's a 99 35 anniversary silver gt. Is there any thing that should be know about the 99 year stangs before I buy it? I know it was there first year in the "new edge" style and am wondering if there were any flaws.
Also, does the 99 have the aluminum crossover on the intake and is there anything crazy with the engine like the dreaded spark plug deal?
Let me know what you guys think about the car, what you like about that year and what you dont like. HELP ME DECIDE!!
ps: only mods I know of is h pipe and flowmasters....

R.I.P......Had to leave off-road h pipe and borla catback on my stang along with a brand new engine with less that 8 months on it...... Got my authenic 18" Saleen's wrapped in 295 and 275 BF'Goodies off though, guess it wasnt a total loss......

Cant afford an 03-04, I wish I could. I'm hoping the insurance company is going to cut me a check for atleast 5,500. He is asking 5500 for the car with 116k on it.

honestly...if i was in your position, i would not buy another mod motor stang if you cant afford a 03/04...theres too many issues to worry about...have you considered a 94/95 5.0L or a fox?

GO *****!!! haha

If i were in your position, unless you are dead set on getting a new edge gt, I would find my self a nice little 5.0. But if you want the new edge try to talk him down a little bit, thats about the time in these cars that the clutch can start to go, and if it needs new tires as well, tell him to nock a couple hundred off for that, other than that, take it somewhere to have it checked out if you can. But yea offer 5K and see what happens

where about SC are ya from?

I disagree. If you are going to keep it simple and stock, then it shouldn't give any trouble.

yea, aside from all the known issues on stock 99-02 cars

spark plugs blowing out (possibly breaking coil packs)
intake manifold cracking (possibly frying coil packs)

and at that high mileage, if its been beaten it may be due for a clutch or head gaskets, the timing chains tensioners may start getting weak and making noise

what would i know, not like ive ever owned a 99 mustang...

those are all problems common on all of these cars, before you try to say i had bad luck...hell i didnt even list 1/4 of the problems ive had with my car...but whenever i do everyone says its bad luck etc etc etc.... but plugs, intake, and timing components are all on the list of "common" problems

and cant forget the AWESOME t45 transmission...known for grinding while cold, grinding to reverse, and occasionally eating shift forks/pins and locking up out of nowhere

Capt Hair, Im in Rock Hill, how about you?
You guys got me scared now. I too have experienced all the problems you listed in my 98. Tensioners, clutch, intake crack (resulting in head gaskets), and also had to fix a spark plug port for a freind. I would go with a 5.0, but i'm sick of the sn95 body style, and want somthing new. I was even thinking about going to a new car completly like the Lincoln LS V8 but they seem to be a bit pricey.
Any tips on anything I can do to check it out before I buy it? I plan on taking it out for about 20 minutes, then throwing some cardboard up under it to check for bad oil leaks. I got my girl's stephoscope (spelling?) to check timing area for "THE TICK!!". Thats all I know I can do. Can't really break down and do a compression test in this guys yard or anything like that.
