OP, I'm gonna take a wild guess based off your first post that your buddy doesn't have the greatest idea of what he's talking about. Go on youtube and look for a few different combinations. H or X pipe, either one can be purchased with or without cats, and that's what is going to make it legal for emissions or not. Being that you're going from a 2.25" midpipe with 4 cats to a 2.5" midpipe with either 2 cats or none at all, midpipes make a huge difference. Longtubes make a big difference as well, especially in power compared to a catback or midpipe, but that's going to cost you some coin.

Anyway, it just depends on what sound you want, more classic muscle go with an H pipe and a chambered muffler, if you want more of an exotic sound go with an X pipe and a non-chambler muffler.
