Wich Cam Chain rentention tool Ford Or AFM

Ok so some people say when swapping cams without removing the front chain cover the AFM retention tools works wonders. Some say it sucks and to buy the ford one. But I keep getting a 50/50 result when viewing old posts. Wich tool do you guys think is the best? Are they made of plastic or metal? Plastic seems like a bad idea because of risking dropping broken pieces down in the cover. What is the part number for the ford tool? The Anderson one is like 30 bucks.

do the job right and remove the front cover. then you can inspect your timing components as well. one slip with the tool and the cover is coming off anyway.

Just take the cover off. Don't half ass it. It's not hard, the only special tool you'll need is a balancer puller.

Are you going to take pics as you install the cams???

I'd like to see a nice write up by an average Joe on doing cams on our cars.

3 hours huh? Sounds nice. I will be going with the AFM tool I guess. I don't think I will be able to take pictures because I won't have enough free hands and this will be my first time myself. I did find a good guide finally however.

That's cool too.

Just let us know how the install goes and if it's too difficult for the average joe.

Good luck!

if you have any amount of miles on your car installing cams without removing the front cover is a half a$$ way of doing the job. most of the times at least one or more of the guides need replacing or getting close to it.....
